ATR, the world leader in regional aviation, today announced its plans for the next generation of its regional aircraft family, the ATR ‘EVO’. The plan calls for advanced design features and a new hybrid-capable engine to offer customers the next generation of ATR aircraft. It will cover innovative technologies to enable significant improvements in performance, economy and sustainability.
Incorporating a new eco-friendly design that includes new propellers, cabin and improved systems, it will remain a twin-engine turboprop that can be powered by 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
ATR CEO Stefano Bortoli said: “Our next generation of aircraft will be a step forward in responsible flying through incremental innovations. When it enters the market, the new ‘EVO’ ATR will pave the way for a decarbonised future for aviation. Key benefits include an overall fuel improvement of 20% and 100% SAF compatibility. This means the aircraft will emit 50% less CO2 than a kerosene-powered regional jet. When using 100% SAF, your emissions will be close to zero. ”
To launch the new product, ATR made a video (below, wait for loading).
Fabrice Vautier, VP Commercial, said: “The ‘EVO’ ATR will be even more cost-effective, with double-digit operating cost savings achieved in particular through 20% less fuel consumption and 20% overall maintenance cost reduction. This means airlines can serve short routes more profitably and communities can benefit from more connectivity, more essential services and more economic development. Our goal is to continue offering customers and society an increasingly inclusive and responsible air transport.”
Stéphane Viala, VP Engineering, added: “We have issued a request for information to major engine manufacturers for the development of the new engine that will combine existing and future generation engine technology. The ‘EVO’ ATR will feature improved performance and an improved cabin, with greater use of lighter bio-sourced materials. Recyclability will also be at the heart of our new design.”
In the coming months, ATR will work with airlines, engine manufacturers and system providers, with the goal of launching the program by 2023.
