Passengers and crew on a commercial flight last Saturday, May 28, experienced a setback after the aircraft was stalled by a sinking in the pavement moments before its takeoff.
As The Aviation Herald reports , the problem happened with the Airbus A320neo registered under the registration XA-VIU, operated by the Mexican company Viva Aerobus, when it departed Reynosa on flight VB-1197 to Mexico City.
The pilots had moved the A320neo along the runway of General Lucio Blanco International Airport to threshold 13 (a procedure called “backtrack”, when it is necessary to taxi on the runway in the opposite direction of takeoff) and were performing a 180º turn in the area intended for this purpose. (called “turnpad”), however, the pavement could not withstand the weight and the nose wheels sank.
The airport’s only runway had to be closed until the aircraft was removed, but there is no official information on how many flights may have been affected.
The flight needed to be canceled and the aircraft remained on the ground in Reynosa until the publication of this article, almost two days after the incident, possibly undergoing inspection procedures to assess whether there was damage.
