The staff shortage crisis affects several flights in Europe and the US, and one pilot decided to take the lead to reduce his takeoff delay.
The case happened on the morning of Monday, May 30th, when TUI’s flight TOM-2744, from Manchester, England, to Heraklion, Greece, was delayed for half an hour waiting for the loading of luggage and cargo, made by the third-party handling company Swissport.
Already impatient with the delay, which is caused by the lack of employees and affects the entire aeronautical industry in Europe, the co-pilot went down to the patio, took the luggage cart, stopped it next to the conveyor belt and started to load the luggage on the plane for own account.
Identified as Simon, the pilot was recorded by passengers waiting inside the plane, as seen in the video below. The airport delay was an average of 5 hours, but many flights were even being cancelled.
The flight ended up taking off 2 hours and 11 minutes later than expected, but it could have been longer if it weren’t for the pilot’s attitude, praised by passengers, who also asked the company to honor him for his attitude:
