Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov told the state news agency TASS that despite sanctions and competition, progress was being made on the MC-21 and SSJ programs for the new aircraft (with Russian components) and currently expected Certification will be completed by the end of 2023.

“Despite sanctions and unfair competition, the MC-21 and Sukhoi superjet program continues to move forward. It is planned to complete the certification of the domestic MS-21 engine and the new Sukhoi superjet by the end of 2023, replace the 38 systems and components imported from Russia,” Borisov said at the meeting.
MC-21 (called by Russians the “Main Aircraft of the 21st Century”, hence its name) is a Russian project of a family of narrow-body aircraft for short- and medium-haul passenger jets. It is the second large-scale Russian project in the field of civil aviation after the Superjet 100.
Unlike the Superjet, designed for the regional aircraft niche (flight range of 3,000 km), the MC-21 is designed for flights over distances of around 6,000 km and is being created as a replacement for the Tu-154 and Tu-154. 204/214, and also as an alternative to foreign aircraft Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
