Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in Braunau am Inn, a city in Austria-Hungary. He was one of six children born to Alois Hitler, a customs official, and Klara Pölzl. In 1908 he moved to Vienna, where he intended to be a painter, but was not accepted into the Academy of Fine Arts.
With the outbreak of World War I, Hitler tried to join the Austrian army but was rejected, enlisting in the German army. In 1919, with the end of the conflict and with Germany economically destroyed, he became one of the first members of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazi Party).
Consolidated in power, Hitler began to execute his political desires: the expansion of the Third Reich across Europe and the execution of those considered impure, such as Jews, Gypsies and homosexuals. In 1945, when defeat in World War II and the Allied invasion of Germany was imminent, Hitler committed suicide along with his wife Eva Braun.
