An incident that occurred a few months ago revealed, this week, a video taken by a passenger in which the moment in which the plane scraped its tail on the runway during takeoff was recorded.
The occurrence, called a “tail strike”, involved the Boeing 737 MAX-9 registered under the registration TF-ICB, operated by the Icelandic company Icelandair.
According to data obtained by The Aviation Herald , the jet was departing on flight FI-681 from Keflavik, Iceland, to Seattle, United States, on February 26, when the lower rear part of the fuselage made contact with the ground in take-off from runway 19 from Keflavik.
In the following recording, when the aircraft is leaving the ground, it is possible to hear the contact (increase the volume of your device to facilitate the perception of the sound).
The pilots continued the flight to their destination, reaching up to 36,000 feet (11,000 meters) in altitude, and landed the Boeing 737 on Seattle’s runway 16R without incident about 7.5 hours after departure.
The “tail skid”, a device located at the bottom of the tail precisely to receive this type of impact and avoid damage to the fuselage, needed maintenance after landing, but the aircraft was already ready and back in service after about 22 hours. on the ground, performing the FI-680 return flight on schedule.
